This talk investigates whether there can be an essential identity or if in fact, as Homi Bhabha says, it is always in flux, ever becoming. Through the lens of recent migration, the ideas of home and belonging are also explored.

Ethics and Narrative: The Human, Self, and Other
This talk explores the often difficult ethical decisions that face a writer in constructing narratives of war, violence, trauma, and other forms of human suffering. It calls into question the limits of witness and asks for a more direct role for both the writer and the reader. The question is, where is the writer and reader, as people not roles, in relation to these matters?

Resisting the Anomie: Exile and the Romantic
This talk discusses the problems of exile for the writer, and asks if exile can be a place of creativity or the death of the imagination. It discusses the problem of allowing exile to replace the cause one has fought for. The talk asks if there is a way to embrace a more nuanced approach such that the cause for which the exile speaks, or has spoken, can remain alive and vibrant and not fade into the myth of the exiled body.
