Application & Guidelines

The Research Fellowships bring together faculty and advanced graduate students (writing dissertations) in order to enable scholarly exchanges that cross departmental and disciplinary boundaries. Fellows participate in a research colloquium, chaired by the Center's Director, that meets regularly throughout the academic year; each meeting focuses on the project of one of the fellows.

Faculty Fellows

Fellows are selected through an external review. The fellowship provides release for two courses, either to be taken in one semester or over the course of the academic year.  Faculty members wishing to complete a fellowship with another unit at the same time as the Center fellowship must gain permission from the Director.  Faculty members cannot complete a Center fellowship during the same academic year in which they take a sabbatical.

To Apply for the 2024-25 Academic Year: Before submitting their application materials, candidates must send an email indicating their intention to apply to humanities@miami.edu by Friday, September 29, 2023. All application materials are then due by Friday, October 20, 2023.

Dissertation Fellows

Up to two dissertation fellows, chosen by the Center's faculty board, participate each semester in the year-long colloquium along with the faculty fellows. Selected dissertation fellows continue to receive financial support from their departments at the level of their existing TA stipends.  Graduate students wishing to complete a fellowship with another unit at the same time as their Center fellowship must gain permission from the Director.
