B. Christine Arce is Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami and Director of the American Studies Program. Dr. Arce received a doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in Hispanic Languages and Literatures; a master’s degree in Political Science, with an emphasis in Political Theory and International Relations, from California State University, Long Beach; and a master’s degree in Spanish from Middlebury College.
Her research across regions and disciplines throughout the Americas—from Río to Miami, from Mexico City to Manhattan—on issues of gender, migration and non-Western epistemologies in Latiné cultural production as well as the artistic traditions of Mexico, Brazil, and the Caribbean.
Elizabeth Cornick

Elizabeth Cornick is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in English at the University of Miami. Her research explores literary and cultural responses to war and peace in 20th-century U.S. literature. Elizabeth previously served as a Digital Humanities Graduate Fellow on the projects Mapping Imaginary Miami and ArchBio, supervised by Dr. Allison Schifani and Dr. Susanna Allés Torrent, respectively. She has designed two courses in American Studies: “American Cities: From Space to Place in the Twentieth Century” and “Narratives of Conflict: War, Peace, and American Cultural Memory in the 1960s”. As a co-convener of the American Studies Interdisciplinary Research Group, her work focuses on the role of the United States in a global context.
Christina Larson

Christina Larson began her position as Assistant Director at the Center for the Humanities in September 2021. As someone who has studied humanities-related disciplines and who is passionate about scholarship and learning, she was delighted to assume this role at the University of Miami.
Larson received her Ph.D. in art history (2015) and Master’s degree (2007) in Art History and Museum Studies from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Her undergraduate degree is in Art History and English (2000), with a Certificate in Museum Studies (2005) from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
She initially came to the University of Miami in November 2017 as the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Academic Engagement--a four-year, grant-funded position. In this role, she worked closely with her colleagues at the Lowe Art Museum and University of Miami Libraries to promote the cultural resources of artwork, artifacts, and archives for teaching, learning, and research purposes for faculty and students. Most importantly, Larson made creative connections with a wide scope of disciplines at the University of Miami, paving new ways to engage with the University’s cultural resources. Larson encouraged curricular visits that featured these cultural resources, and she also oversaw the Andrew W. Mellon CREATE Grants Program that supported faculty projects with these collections.
Larson has researched, published, and presented on teaching with primary sources and object-based learning at the college level. Her research and educational interests have also focused on the Medical Humanities throughout her career. In May 2026, she began a three-year volunteer term as a Co-Representative for the state of Florida for the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries.
